Cambridge EVO ONE
One beautiful box, fourteen speakers, and a full hi-fi system with nothing else to buy.
A whole system without the rack
You want real sound, the kind that fills a room and does justice to your music, but you don't want a stack of separates, a snarl of cables, and a rack that takes over the space. Most one-box systems ask you to choose between looking clean and sounding serious. You shouldn't have to.
Why we chose the EVO ONE
We chose the EVO ONE because it's a complete hi-fi system in a single, beautifully made box, finished with a real FSC-certified walnut top, every one with its own grain. Inside are fourteen drivers, four tweeters, four midranges, and six woofers, each with its own 50W Class-D amplifier, for 700W total, tuned to throw a wide, room-filling sound. It runs Cambridge's Gen 4 StreamMagic platform, so Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, Deezer, AirPlay 2, Roon, and internet radio all come through one unit. There's HDMI eARC for the TV, a built-in moving-magnet phono stage for a turntable, and app-based room correction to match the sound to where you put it. One box, and you're done.
What the specs won't tell you
Room-filling sound from one box. Fourteen drivers firing across the front and sides mean the EVO ONE doesn't sound like a speaker sitting in a corner. It spreads music wide and even across the room, so it sounds full whether you're in the sweet spot or making dinner two rooms over. Reviewers keep coming back to the same word: spacious.
Your turntable and your TV, both plugged in. A built-in moving-magnet phono stage means you can connect a turntable straight in, no separate box, and HDMI eARC lets it handle the television too. Vinyl, streaming, and movie nights all live in the same unit. For amps without a phono stage you'd normally add a Cambridge Solo or Duo, here it's already built in.
It tunes itself to your room. The StreamMagic app includes room optimisation that adjusts the sound based on how close the EVO ONE sits to walls and corners. Push it against a wall or float it on a console, and it stays balanced instead of turning boomy. The 6.8" colour screen shows album art or VU meters, so it looks like hi-fi, not a gadget.
What the reviewers heard
T3 (October 2024) called it an epic all-in-one that sounds sensational, praising the naturally wide, enveloping soundstage from the 14-speaker array and plenty of bass, while noting its size won't suit every room. What Hi-Fi? (February 2025) scored it strongly on features and build, describing a broad, room-filling, refined presentation with fluid dynamics, and flagged that it favours smooth balance over outright punch.
The Audio Two verdict
This is the system we point to when someone wants real hi-fi sound and a clean room, and doesn't want to assemble separates to get there. It genuinely replaces a streamer, an amp, a phono stage, and a pair of speakers with one object you're happy to look at. It's at its best filling a living room, kitchen, or open-plan space with sound, less about pinpoint audiophile imaging, more about a big, mature, easy-to-live-with sound that plays everything you own. If you have the shelf for it, little else at the price does this much in one box.
