REL HT/1205 MKII Subwoofer

$1,240

A stronger theatre subwoofer should make the room feel more convincing without turning every scene into noise.

When the System Needs More Impact

Some rooms need more than a small subwoofer can comfortably deliver. Movie soundtracks need pressure, scale, and speed, but they also need control so the bass supports the scene instead of covering everything else.

That balance is where many budget subs fall short. They can sound big for a moment, but the system still feels disconnected from the room.

A Bigger HT Series REL for Movie Systems

We chose the REL HT/1205 MKII because it gives the HT Series more output and depth while keeping the REL focus on speed and control. It uses a 12-inch CarbonGlas driver, a 500-watt Class D amplifier, and low-frequency extension down to 22 Hz.

This is still a theatre-first REL, but it can play well with music when the system is set up with care. That makes it useful for rooms where movies are the main reason for the subwoofer, but music still matters.

What the Specs Won't Tell You

It Gives the Room More Scale

The larger 12-inch driver and 500-watt amplifier help the HT/1205 MKII move more air than the HT/1003 MKII. Movie soundtracks gain more size, more pressure, and a stronger physical foundation.

It Keeps Impact Under Control

REL’s HT approach is not just about making explosions louder. The HT/1205 MKII is designed to deliver fast, controlled low bass so effects have punch without making the room feel muddy.

It Can Still Support Music

When placed and tuned properly, the HT/1205 MKII can add body and depth to music without making the system feel slow. It is not as music-first as T/x or Serie S, but it is not a crude theatre-only sub either.

The Audio Two Verdict

The REL HT/1205 MKII is the model we would choose when the room needs more theatre authority than the HT/1003 MKII can comfortably provide. It is a strong value choice for media rooms, TV systems, and theatre-first spaces where the bass has to feel more physical.

If music is the main priority, we would usually move the conversation toward T/x. If movies are the priority and value still matters, the HT/1205 MKII makes a lot of sense because it gives the room more physical energy while still keeping music enjoyable.
