First Listen: Audiovector Trapeze RI Arrives at Audio Two

They’ve landed. Audiovector’s Trapeze RI (Re-Imagined) speakers have touched down in our showroom, literally rolled in via their rugged flight cases on wheels. But once unboxed and powered up, they didn’t just make a statement; they redefined what we thought possible from a passive loudspeaker.

Why We Brought the Trapeze RI to Audio Two

Over the years, we’ve heard countless speakers across every category, but the Trapeze RI immediately stood out. Based on the exceptional performance of the R 3 Arreté, it became clear we needed to bring in something even more expressive. The Trapeze bridges the gap between the R 3 and the R 6 in both scale and emotional presence. This isn’t just an upgrade, it’s a loudspeaker that commands attention and delivers an experience that few can match.

Unboxing the Experience

The Trapeze RI feels every bit the flagship it is. Each speaker ships in a custom-engineered flight case, signaling just how seriously Audiovector takes quality control and presentation. Unboxing them felt like a ceremonial moment—fitting for a design that traces its lineage to Audiovector’s original Trapeze from 1979. The original was a flagship and still highly regarded to this day.

Once in place, and before we even installed the grounding cables or stainless-steel cones, the sound coming from these floor standers was nothing short of revelatory.

System Context: Powered by Accuphase

We’ve paired the Trapeze R I with the Accuphase E-4000 integrated amplifier—a high-current design that complements the speakers’ precision and dynamic swing. Even in the early stages of play, the synergy was electric.

Client reactions so far? “Staggering imaging,”  and “like having the band right in front of you.” " Deep, tight, fast bass, just amazing"

The imaging is near-holographic. Bass has grip and weight without bloom. And vocals float with a spooky realism we’ve rarely heard.

Why the Trapeze R I Stands Out

Classic Form, Modern Muscle
The trapezoidal cabinet isn’t just retro, it reduces internal reflections and phase errors, giving the speaker incredible coherence and timing.

Compound Isobaric Bass System
A 12" front-firing woofer and internal 8" driver deliver low-end impact and agility that never interferes with the midrange.

Open-Back AMT Tweeter
Air, speed, and resolution with no edge. This tweeter is hand-built and mounted in an open-back chamber for dimensional treble.

Freedom Grounding + Damping Selector
Still to be installed in our setup, but designed to extract blacker backgrounds and better amp matching, whether you're running tubes or solid-state.
